Some additional information about the Chassis Set-up Jig

Each Chassis Set-up Jig is hand made, there is no secret to the process, the base of each unit is made from select oak hardwood, the remainder of the components are either aluminum or steel. The only option the buyer has is whether they want the base in a natural finish or painted black.

Positioning of the Jig components: the front component goes under the lower ball joints with the wheel base measuring brackets (that are attached to the base) on the inside or facing toward the rear, always position the front Jig component first. The rear component has the body off-set gauge mounted on the left upright and the wheel base measuring brackets go on the rear bumper side of the Jig base.

The front uprights are designed to hold the lower ball joint between the jamb nut and the ball. If you have your car set up very narrow, and you have two jamb nuts on each ball joint, the Jig maybe too wide for your current set-up. You can re-position the front uprights or widen the cars track.

The rear component of the Jig is more difficult to position than the front. The fit is close and it is hard to see. We always remove both rear wheels and take the trunk lid off before positioning the Jig directly under the rear axle. Check the alignment under the axle before you let the car down onto the Jig. Use care the first few times to insure that you have the Jig in place, make sure that the rear axle settles into the bracket properly.

Check to be sure that the gusset for the rear shock mount clears the rear mounting bracket on the rear upright, you may need a flashlight for this. Although these cars are all built on the same 600 Racing jigs, there is no telling if every measurement is exactly the same. If this gusset is binding, the rear axle will not self center in the bracket and this will effect the wheel base measurements. If it is binding or the clearance is very tight, grind away a little more of the bracket on the inside to alleviate the problem.

The front uprights are not adjustable. The height is pre-set and no adjustment is necessary. The Jig was designed to hold the Legends car in the attitude it would be in, if the wheels were on and the car was sitting on the ground.

When placing the Legends car on the Jig, take a moment to pre-position the ride height indicators so that they are not going to be under the frame when you lower the car and remove the quick jack.

The casters are of small diameter (2 inches) they will not roll on rough, uneven surfaces. We thought of using larger casters but that would raise the overall height of the Jig components and then the quick jack wouldn=t work, so small casters are used for mobility.

Read the AHow to Guide@. This tool will work for you and your Legends car but you must establish your base line measurements first. Do this once and do it right and you will have a system for setting up your car that is repeatable race after race.
