Summit Point Raceway, the annual Turkey Bowl that includes Legends cars on the program. This year, 24 Legends cars from all over the east coast arrived at the track for what proved to be an exciting weekend of road racing on this 2.0 mile, 10 turn newly re-paved road course.
Some teams arrived on Friday, only to be mostly rained out but Saturday turned out to be a perfect day for racing. The first practice session for the Legends Teams was marred by several off track excursions with one of the coupes going end over end through the gravel pit next to turn 10.
Just before lunch 23 cars took the green flag for the first Legends race of the day. This was a heat race with grid positions determined by drawing. This was a fast and clean race with our # 11va starting in 6th and finishing 6th.
In the afternoon, the Legends cars were set to compete in an Enduro that would be a timed event of 45 minutes with a mandatory 5 minute pit stop for all cars. Teams could change drivers if they chose to and the HMS Racing Team planned a driver change at the half way point in the race. We started started in 6th, changed drivers 21 minutes into the race during the pit stop and finished the race in 7th place.
Sunday was just as nice as Saturday but not quite as warm. After an early morning practice, we found ourselves without brakes, cracked brake line. We were lucky, another Team, #73 car, had the brake line that we needed and we were back to racing.
A late morning heat race would set the starting grid positions for the feature race in mid afternoon. We started 6th again, found the car awfully loose, had to chase the rear on several occasions and ended up loosing a spot to the # 6 car, finishing in 7th.
We want to thank Charlie the owner of Intersport Performance, one of our sponsors for huddling with us to suggest some set-up changes in preparation for the feature. It's not often that you can get that kind of help at the track, but we were fortunate that Charlie was at this event.
Twenty three cars took the green flag for the feature, we started 7th based on our heat race finish. This would be a 15 lap race that would be a good test of drivers skills, car set-up and overall Team preparation. We moved up into 4th place early in the race but could not close on the leaders and finished a strong 4th. Mike said" the car was strong and it stuck in the corners better than it had all weekend".
We want to thank all of our sponsors for their support this season, we couldn't have done it without you. HMS Racing
